             Wrestling is the oldest sport, and yet it still remains strong. Wrestlers today possess better technical skills than wrestlers in the past. They have created new moves and perfected the basics ones. Another important reason why wrestlers are better nowadays is because they have a better work ethic (Kenn, Spiedel and Swartz 3). Work ethics were not as strong in the first wrestling matches in the United States; matches were rough and tumbling bouts in the pioneer days. In the 1900's the rules permitted any holds except strangling, and both arms and legs could be used. Formal regulations were adopted later on, which legalized almost unlimited actions including tripping and tackling (Schmit).
             This sport is popular because it is an individual sport. There is nothing like two guys working their hardest just to beat each other. The beauty of it is that it is not a team sport; there is no one else that can get the wrestler out of a jam. If he wants a victory he is going to have to work his hardest to earn that victory. That is why it feels so much better when an athlete wins in wrestling than when he wins in any other team sport, because he knows he did it all by himself, all his hard work and all the time he put in has finally paid off.
             There are many types of wrestling: Greco-Roman wrestling is a style that is competed in the Olympics. There have been many people that have never wrestled Greco but the main rule is never touch an opponent below the waist, no matter what position they come upon. Greco-Roman moves are upper body moves, which are mostly throws. The next type of Olympic wrestling is freestyle.
