Krondor: The Betrayal by Raymond Feist By Jim Wong 10F
Gorath plunged his sword into his opponent's gut and was rewarded with a cry of pure terror. He paused to study his surroundings. To a lesser elf, the scene before him would appear to be one of complete chaos; elves and mercenaries of various factions seemed to be striking down anyone who came into their sight and neither side gaining any advantage. But to a veteran like Gorath who had fought over 100 battles in his lifetime, the situation was clear and simple; his forces were clearly being overcome, slowly but surely he knew that it was only a matter of time until Clan Ardenien would be wiped out forever. He knew he had to act now but was loath to abandon his people at a time when they needed him most. After moments of consideration, Gorath wrenched his sword from the now dead elf and turned to make his escape. Suddenly a renegade human lunged at Gorath, forcing him to parry and loose precious time. Since Gorath knew time was quickly running out, he ran his opponent through without hesitation and hurried to the exit of the flaming camp. He knew that his presence here would have no effect the outcome of the battle and although it was a disgrace for a Clan Chieftain like himself to abandon his Clan, Gorath knew his people would be as good as dead by sunset. Besides, it was imperative that his message reached its destination and as his entire Clan was being slaughtered in the camp, he knew that he would have to deliver it personally.
'Delekhan,' Gorath cursed under his breath 'you will pay dearly for this!'
