On this night, not unlike a few others I've had, I was awakened by the patting of
rain drops on my roof top. Usually, I love it when it rains. Especially in the pitch black
and dead of night. The rhythm of rain drops as they tap dance on my window's ledge
together with the fresh smell of cooled air as it fills my room, produces a tranquility in me
like mama's lullaby use to. Then, much quicker than I've ever been able to realize, I was
off to sleep. On this night however, my ole companion brought with it, no comfort.
Several hours passed while I endlessly tossed and turned. I longed for even a single
moment of peace but it never came. Regrettably, after reaching the end of my tolerance, I
Without lights, I stumbled out of my bedroom, through the shadowy hallway, and
into the kitchen for a drink of water. The darkness was like a gloomy, weightless, mist
that encompassed everything. And although I had to reach, touch, and feel my way
through it, I prayed that nothing would ever reach, touch, and feel me back. There was
also the faint odor of last night's dinner slowly being diminished by the scent of spring
fresh flowers from a nearby air freshener. Once I reached the kitchen, I really wasn't as
thirsty as I had been lead to believe. To be more precise, quenching thirst simply wasn't
my final motive. I needed to sleep. So, I spent a few moments reviewing events from the
last several hours but I found nothing helpful. Finally, though disappointed and glum,
I conceded that it was probably time to try and close my eyes again.
Perhaps another hour had passed, as I laid down, still unable to sleep. I think that
it was during one of my turns when I became aware of a thin but somewhat muted beam
