Title IX and its Influence of Proportionality with Discrimination of Men in College Sports
             Title IX has dramatically helped women into sports, but opponents argue that it's pushing men out, causing many programs to go defunct to make way to fund female athletics. Since the passing on Title IX, the participation level of women's sports has spurned from about one in twenty-seven college athletes to nearly one in every two athletes. Title IX refers to the law made in 1972, in part, requiring that schools receiving federal funding for their sports programs, should provide and offer equal opportunities to both men and women athletes. In order for schools, namely colleges, to be in compliance with these new laws, they had to follow one of three ways. The first is making the percentage of female athletes equal to the percentage of female students in the school, the second by showing an ongoing history of increasing opportunities for women, and lastly by showing that it (the school) is accommodating the interests and abilities of women. Namely the first rule of compliance, the one that is most popularly practiced, is what is being accused an resulting in the loss of many men's sports programs in America due to proportionality between male and female athletes.
             The principal conflict with most college organizations and Title IX is the fact that schools are cutting smaller men's sport programs to accommodate women's athletics. Many schools believe that this is the only way that can be practiced to avoid any accusation of noncompliance to Title IX, since numbers of athletes, as opposed to the other two means of compliance, can measure "progress" heavily.
