Finally, Numb, a song lyric by the famous band U2, written by Kevin Godley, is an interesting expression of social obedience to fear and to rules, while at the same time highlighting the burden that the non-conformist bears. These materials reinforce and extend the concepts that relate to the study of non-conformity that are presented in The Mosquito Coast, and these concepts will be discussed in detail.
             Non-conformity is directly opposed to organized institutional authority. Organization are constituted of large numbers of people, it is therefore hard to overthrow them, and poses another problem to the non-conformist. In the mind of the non-conformist, everything that is organized, conceptualized and planned restricts the freedom of individuality. We can see this reflected in The Mosquito Coast, where Allie Fox despises large organizations that control the functioning of society. "I blame the oil companies and the car industry, big business". Thus he places the blame on the majority, the majority of which operates according to rules and regulations, and therefore loses the freedom of thought. The same idea is expressed in Brave New World. Their society exists as one World State. There is only one-way traffic, and if you don't follow this way, then you are alienated. No individual does anything out of their own choice. Everything, absolutely everything is arranged, thought through, and either approved or dismissed. "...you will see that no offence is so heinous as unorthodoxy of behavior. Murder kills only the individual-and, after all, what is an individual?... We can make a new one with the greatest ease-as many as we like.
