While there is no one definition as to what it means to be a third wave feminist, generally it is agreed upon that feminism is meant to "combat the inequalities that woman face as a result of age, gender, race, sexual orientation, economic status or level of education." Using these terms, Michele Landsberg of the Toronto Star is in every sense of the word, a feminist. Over the past 25 years she has covered many of the issues that influence the lives of woman around the world and has been very outspoken in her writing against unjust politics and political institutions, racism, poverty, and violence towards woman.
Michele Landsberg has definite ideas about the political system and its players, and has no qualms about sharing them. She is willing to question any political system or politician that she feels does not best suit the needs of the people whether it involves the President of the United States or child care in Ontario. In an article titled "Bush continues his right-wing war on woman," Mrs. Landsberg rightly points out that with President Bush in power, women around the world are once again in jeopardy of losing their reproductive rights. She even goes so far as to compare the Taliban to Mr. Bush, as both seem to have oppressive views towards woman. Mr. Bush isn't the only thing Landsberg has to comment about. Her story entitled "Agency harasses disabled instead of helping them," focused on the lack of government aid available for disabled people and showed her disgust at a government who she says have designed the system "to penalize and harass the disabled." As Dr. Little showed in her presentation on the state of welfare in Ontario, people who need assistance, especially women, often receive so little help that they cannot sustain themselves and their children.
