Da's father was always out working at a labor camp, and his mother gathered as much food as possible to feed her four children, which was not a lot at all. It was clear to tell that technology-wise their town was not very modernized. A large percent of the people worked on farms in which they gained little profit, and little food. The Commune Party that led the town enjoyed the most luxuries, and it was said that the only eclectricity that was provided was at the Commune Party's headquaters. It was very clear that the Commune Party was in complete control of everything. The way people lived was basically based around how Chairman Mao wanted it to be. Any man, women, or child that was suspected of or involved with any counterrevolutionary acts was brutally punished, and often sent to work at labor camps, as did Da's father and grandfather.
