New York City is home to many problems, not only the recent attack of the World Trade center, or the city-wide blackout. For starters, New-Yorkers are subject to great amounts of pollution caused mostly by the large number of vehicles present in the city. The skies above New York are darkened and dulled by the smog caused by millions of cars, trucks and buses. Also, crime and theft are rampant in the Big Apple. The city is often mocked and ridiculed with "mugging" jokes. One must be extremely foolish or masochistic to wander around in the secluded street corners and alleys in New-York city after sundown. Thugs and muggers are not the only contributors to crime; however, the mafia plays a major role as well. Movies like "Goodfellas" or "The Godfather" glorify the mob scene in New-York, but the fact of the matter is that organized crime is a very real problem in the city. The mafia also helps to propagate and magnify another one of New York City's problems; the drugs. Drugs, such as cocaine, heroine and marijuana, are not uncommon in the city New-York, and frankly, they are quite easily acquired. Prostitutes sell their bodies and criminals their stolen loot to fund their addiction to these drugs. The more they use, the more they need, and so the cycle is repeated until they are either apprehended by the authorities or are killed by an overdose. As you can see New York City has and is suffering through many problems which are affecting the people in the city and the beauty of it.
