could be argued that the PSR process leans toward the Medical Model. King (1981) in his description of the different models of the system cites 'rehabilitation' as the models main social function. He also mentions information collecting procedures and expert decision advisers as 'features of court' in this model.
             To make a comparison and to try and link the PSR process to Kings Model could be beneficial in assessing the probation service as a whole in relation to sentencing. The 'expert decision advisers' in this process could be the trained probation officer. They have two years of specialised training and could be deemed as experts in their field. The information collecting procedures which King refers to could be the PSR interview and subsequent gathering of information.
