Throughout American history, there were many groups that were victims of attacks. Some of these include African Americans, Jews, immigrants, and American Indians. Over all, I believe that the group that suffered the most was the African American population because of their different appearance. The following is a quote that connects to African Americans in the early times: "People hate those who make them feel their own inferiority." This is a quote from Earl of Chesterfield
             During our country's early periods, African Americans were brought to this land in the hundreds of thousands to work as slaves on farms and plantations. They were brought here against their will and many times were separated from their families. Many of them died during the trip from Africa to the United States because of dreadful conditions on the slave ships. When they arrived, they were auctioned off to land owners who then became their masters.
             Slaves were given food, shelter, and minimal clothing in turn for their hard labor. They were not given the freedom and opportunities that other citizens were afforded. The slave owners believed that African Americans were inferior to others and could be dominated. By using the cheapest of labor, they were able to profit enormously without giving their workers economic compensation. Many in the country accepted it and did little to stop it. They used fear and intimidation to those who would flee their masters.
             If they were caught, often times they would be brought back and made an example of to the rest of the slaves. They were often whipped and beaten in front of the others. The longer this practice was allowed to happen the worse the situation became. This practice went on for almost 125 years. Many wondered why a race of people could be enslaved and dominated for so long. This country was founded on many rights and opportunities that other countries did not have.
