In today's society pressure is placed on everyone, young or old, to act as the current standard deems fit. No individual is exempt from this even though some may seem to be outside its sphere of influence. When one does not fall under this blanket of predetermined ideas of normality then stereotypes emerge. Society acts as if one's personality and habits are defined by his or her on race, age, or any number of other factors. Many versions of the Cinderella tale exist, but most of the stories encompass some sort of stereotypical character or characters. Subsequently, in all versions of the Cinderella tale (original or adapted), the main Cinderella-like characters are stereotypical, which forces readers to look beyond their first impressions for the traits that make them a strong role models for female readers.
             Karol Kelly stated that most stereotypical woman were "beautiful, feminine, dependant, devoid of negative emotions, but fully expressive of positive ones" (Kelly, 614). In both the Perrault and Disney version of Cinderella, the main character Cinderella plays the standard female stereotype. Cinderella takes care of the housewife like skills needed around the house. In Perrault's version, Cinderella was the one who "washed the dishes, and the stairs, who cleaned out [her mother's] room and the rooms of the [sister's]" (Perrault, 595). Moreover, in Disney's adaptation of the story Cinderella "cooked and baked. She cleaned and scrubbed. She had no time for parties and fun" (Disney, 599). In both stories Cinderella starts off as a stereotypical woman character and later evolves into another female stereotypical character embodied as a royal princess, which shows Cinderella to be beautiful and feminine.
