Abigail Williams and Hester Prynne

             In the movies, The Scarlet Letter and The Crucible, characters Abigail Williams and Hester Prynne have many similarities and differences. They were both strong
             determined women, but only one had integrity. Even though they were two different character who were in two different situations, they still had some common features! In The Scarlet Letter, Hester was a married women. Hester's husband went away for a very long time. When Chillingworth was away, Hester slept with her minister, Arthur Dimmesdale. Hester got pregnant by Dimmesdale. Because of Chillingworth being away and Hester being pregnant, the townspeople found out that Hester had committed adultery. They locked Hester Prynne away in prison. While in prison, Hester had a baby girl, which she named Pearl. Sometimes, they would take Hester to the market place and make her stand on the scaffold to be ridiculed by the townspeople. The towns' magistrates and officials pleaded with Hester to tell the name of Pearl's father. Hester kept Dimmesdale's identity a secret of out respect. She never told on him. If his secret was to be told, Dimmesdale would have to do it himself.
             In The Crucible, Abigail used to be John and Elizabeth Procter's servant girl. When Elizabeth was sick, John committed adultery with Abigail. Abigail was committing fornication with John. When Elizabeth found out she told Abigail to leave because she was a harlot. Abigail and some of her friend were caught in the wood trying
             to do Black Magic against John and Elizabeth. Abigail tried ruin John's life because of her lust for him. When they were asked about it they lied on innocent people. They claimed that other people's spirits made them dance in the forest. They also said that the spirits taunted them. These lies that Abigail and her friends told caused many of innocent people their lives. Both Abigail and Hester were very strong women. Hester kept her pride when the townspe...
