As an instructor, I hope that they don't just learn about sailing but how to communicate with other people better. Also how persevere through tough situations, since many times sailing can be very nervous and strenuous for people learning how to sail.
             This past summer Michael, was a the student I had had the pleasure to try and teach, but he also reminded me of the challenges we all must face. Michael was in the Optimist pram class where he was put on a boat all by himself. Many kids have a problem being all by themselves, but they adapt to the situation and learn to have fun sailing. Michael could not adapt to the situation and with his learning disability he had very hard time learning the schematics of sailing. He did not know how to sail, and when he was put on the boat he could remember how to do any of the sailing techniques that I taught him in the classroom.
