The author, Shirley Lynn Scott, ask serial killers what they think made them the way that they are and also do research to find out what it is that makes serial killers be the way that they are. The serial killer Carl Panzram wrote, "All of my family are as the average human beings are. They are honest and hard working people. All except myself. I have been a human-animile ever since I was born. When I was very young at 5 or 6 years of age I was a thief and a lier and a mean despisable one at that. The older I got the meaner I got." (Scott) Panzram feels that he was born the way that he is and is basically just a mean person. A twin's research done in 1997 by Yoon-Mi Hur and Thomas Bouchard revealed a link between impulsivity and sensation-seeking behavior, which they believe is attributed almost entirely to genetic factors. According to their research, these two traits are found more in drug abusers, delinquents, and psychopaths than most other people.
