             Divorce is very common in the United States; in fact
             one out of every two marriages ends in divorce, which is
             a fifty percent divorce rate. Many children are raised in
             single parent homes. The effects of divorce on children
             are devastating, and numerous. How devastating are the
             effects of divorce on children? Well, I will answer this
             question as we go through this essay.
             Lack of both parental role models within the household
             has an effect on children. I had friends that had only
             one parent, and they were usually getting into trouble.
             When there is only one parent in the family, the people
             that the children hang around with become their role
             models. Some of my friends who had divorced parents, would
             tell me that they felt anger towards the parent who left
             them, because they felt abandoned. Many of my friends would
             get involved in gangs, because they felt that the gangs
             were their family. It is not unusual for somebody to feel
             that way, especially when the only parent they live with is
             out working. It's hard for a divorced mom or dad to work
             and be able to have time for their children.
             Children in a single parent family may have more
             difficulties because of the household income. In most
             divorce cases the mother is the one who has custody of the
             children. We all know that in this world the women usually
             end up making less money than the men; that is why the
             income for a family that is being raised by a mother is
             less than that of the family being raised by a father. My
