             The pilgrim's spiritual journey is more then a journey of prayer and fasting it is also one of forgiveness. Forgiveness and the ability to start again are not unique to Islam but the way it is practiced is very distinct from other religions. When someone sets out on pilgrimage they seek the forgiveness of God and receive it at the plain of Arafat. It is the one chance that the Muslim will get to wipe clean the slate of sin they have produced during their lifetime. It is said of the pilgrim who arrives at Arafat and does not believe that their sins are forgiven, sins in the highest form. Another interesting facet of this practice is that on some occasions if a person makes a pilgrimage they can offer them for others, as was the case of Ali ibn Muwaffaq. Muwaffaq while on pilgrimage thought of those who couldn't go and asked God to give his pilgrimage to those whose pilgrimages were not accepted, and God granted his request (
