             Chinua Achebe shows how one's approach and character in imposing modernization over traditional beliefs gives rise to conflicts and results in consequences. To prove my point I will, first of all, show how Michael Obi's bad approach in imposing modernization resulted into a conflict. Second of all, I will analyze Obi's Character to show how his character influenced the rise of the conflict. At the end, I will state the conflicts and consequences that resulted because of Obi's character and approach.
             One can use a bad approach in imposing his views and beliefs such that it gives rise to conflicts. There exist people who try to bring good to an entity but use a bad approach in imposing it. There bad approach is most of the time considered as an insult to this entity which therefore provokes a conflict between the two parties. Michael Obi, in Dead men's Path, is a perfect example. We see that Obi uses a very bad approach into imposing modernization over the traditional village. "I will suggest your constructing another path, skirting our premises. I don't suppose the ancestors will find the little detour too burdensome." One can easily see that Obi mocks the beliefs of the villagers when he quarrels with the priest and tells him how he should simply relocate the path. He also adds a disrespectful joke to it. His use of the word "little" implies that the path does not need to have a specific location and any argument against moving it would be ridiculous. "The whole purpose of our school is to eradicate just such beliefs as that. Dead men do not require footpaths. The whole idea is just fantastic. Our duty is to teach your children to laugh at such ideas." Not only does Michael mock the beliefs of the villagers, but he also teaches the village children to do the same.
