Great Expectations

             In the past years, expectations for each sex have been scripted into society and have come to a social and cultural acceptance. The same social flow would be apparent today if it were not for evolved altering and social transitions due to inevitable changes such as men and women becoming more equal, women becoming more self-determining, and a desensitized population. Today, society has a preconceived notion towards gender rules; we see major differences in jobs, social interests, and physical and/or emotional values.
             Women today are served with more credibility and are liberated to live up to their greater expectations. In the past women were solely homemakers. It was socially accepted that females stayed home and cared for children. Men were expected to be the breadwinners and reapers keeping the finances flowing. Currently, the working world has altered significantly. Women have climbed the corporate ladder, leaving their duties at home to be the full-time caretakers of the home and children. Women have become figures with more respect, independence, and have obtained jobs similar to those of the male sex. At the same time, some men are found at home occupied with "feminine" tasks. Men are allowing the nature of women's intelligence to come into play by taking care of children and working on sustaining the home while women are at college or maintaining high level occupations, making them the financial stabilizers in the relationship. Women's credibility has obviously increased over the years and the stature of men has slummed, becoming more so equal to the stature of women.
             Women today are socially equal if not higher than the social standing of the male sex. Men's social status has previously been above women, while women were normally looked down upon.
