             Taking the media as a focal point of Brown's argument, she claims that a moral panic is established as a result of representations portrayed by newspapers, videos, television etc. For example, citing the Bulger case , the judge claimed that violent videos in particular may have played a part in influencing the children to a certain extent. However, this is not to say that what the media prints is true – invariably it is neither fact not fiction but an repackaging of the idea of youth, and these representations are popular, powerful, influential and even fashionable. Indeed, Cohen believes that " 'news' neither reflects reality or is invented but is produced through the relationships between the general public, institutions of social control and young people". Henceforth the media perpetuates youth to be 'a threat to the very fabric of society', blaming criminal damage on 'unfettered, undisciplined young people with too much time and money, corrupted by popular music and the values of consumption'. However, it can be said that the media merely reflects the public perception of youth and serves to fuel a natural moral panic. It is my firm belief that although the media creates the impression that the parents are undeniably partly or even wholly to blame for their troublesome offspring seems absurd. It may contribute a factor, although small, to the way they are brought up and educated but to say that disciple is a major factor in determining a 'normal' upbringing is unfounded. If anything, I believe that the more disciplined and the more values are imposed upon young people, the more they are likely to react in a negative manner or fashion i.e. excessive discipline may breed fear and, in turn, resentment and anger which they would attempt to vent through illegal and immoral action.
