             Along with the Chinese discontent with what Japan was doing with Korea in 1937 Japanese troops began an all-out attack on China and occupied a capital, Nanjing. The city of Nanjing will be forever remembered in China and throughout the world. It is documented that anyone who even slightly rebelled from the Japanese army was killed. Thousands of atrocities were said to have been committed by the Japanese army, and no one especially Japan's neighbors want to see them have that power again.
             The conflict over history continues even today. The Chinese and Korean critics are angered over new history textbooks being used in middle schools throughout Japan. There is an ambiguity over guilt and responsibility for the Asia-Pacific War that was created by including Article Nine in Japan's constitution, because this allowed Japan to pacify and ignore responsibility for the war.
             It is approximately 1300 miles from Beijing to Tokyo, and only about 730 miles from North Korea to Tokyo. It is over 2300 miles from the east coast of the United States to the west coast. These three countries are closer to each other than Delaware and California. Although there is water between Japan and China and Korea, missiles, battleships, and information can quickly close the distance between the countries.
