             Another way that government helped industry was to eliminate competition that was destructive to companies. Steel and power companies became very similar to monopolies at this time, as they controlled the market in their particular industry.
             Frederick Taylor brought scientific management to industry, which later became known as Taylorism. Taylor introduced the stopwatch onto the shop floor to conduct studies of the labor process. He proved that by studying worker's movements he could increase efficiency and production. Taylor developed models of processes executed on the work floor that represented movements made by workers. After studying these models, he was able to eliminate unnecessary movements that allowed workers to become more efficient. Managers were used to conduct these studies, which allowed them to become more familiar with the labor process.
