our children. Tracy lived on a farm with her family near Wilkie, Saskatchewan. Tracy died October 23, 1993 at the age of 12 years old when her father, Robert Latimer conducted a mercy killing. And more recently Terri Schiavo's family and their fight with her husband's decision to remove the feeding tube in order to let her die and today remains locked in a legal battle.
             Although these cases all surround Euthanasia it brings back my argument that each case should be considered individually and our rights must be considered. Mina Gasser Battagin wrote in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, v144 n3 p358(2) February 1, 1991 that "Our world is complex, and we live in an era when rights are very important. There is a consensus that we all have the right to live. But if that is true, then we should all have the right to die. Euthanasia is controversial, as it should be. It is not right for everyone, but there are those who want and should have the right to choose death when it is warranted. Death is often a welcome relief from a life of agony. For those who face today's advanced medical care, the only solution is to end their own lives, often prematurely, so that they do not face the threat of finding themselves without the means to do so later. This should not be their only choice". Sue Rodrigous wanted to die. She wanted people to remember her as a lively healthy woman, not just a body lying helpless in a hospital bed. With that thought in mind, Sue made a conscious decision and went to court to fight for her right to die by euthanasia and unfortunately the court system wouldn't allow her, which took away her right to choose or freedom of choice.
             In the case of Tracy Latimer, her father took what he thought was her right into his own hands. This I struggled with concluding my stand point because I am also a parent and I had to question "What would I do?" I felt empathy for him and compassion...
