             Catherine's missing Heathcliff, according to Steven Cohan, is perceived as her longing for her childhood which is embodied with Heathcliff for her, whereas maturity is associated with Edgar. Therefore, Catherine believes that she can connect these two things by marrying Edgar and loving Heathcliff, but they exclude each other.
