Pornography is a serious problem that faces the church. Pornography jeopardizes the church's moral and ethical values and is easily accessible by children and adults alike. Most times children access it through the Internet and are old enough to understand the complete meaning of human sexuality. Adults accessing pornographic material, who have a common understanding of sexuality, begin to develop distorted values of normal behavior(Johnson 3). Pornography is easy to find and is easily accessed through more than the Internet, maybe through video stores, television, magazines, and more. Pornography is tearing apart the church, through the congregation getting lost in it and even the pastor losing the battle to it. Pornography is a major crisis to the church because it is a sin of lust, it is addictive, and it plagues the people involved with the church.
The Bible does not say anything about pornography, specifically, but pornography is still wrong. Pornography is photography and/or illicit paintings, cartoons that are designed to arouse sexual passions in the viewing of it(Makaye 3). An accurate conclusion from the scriptures that deal with other issues can be applied to the issue of pornography. In Matthew 5:27 it says, "You have heard that is was said, you shall not commit adultery; 28 but I (Jesus) say to you that anyone who looks onto a woman with lust for her has committed adultery with her in his heart." In 1 Corinthians 6:18, the Bible says, " Flee immorality, Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body." In Colossians 3:5 it says, "Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry."
