Subject: Resolution for equipment breakage problem occurred between Insect Diagnostic Laboratory and Soil Science Center
The purpose of this document is to inform Dr. Hassan Bazzi about serious problem of breakage of equipment borrowed from Soil Science Center that occurred in our laboratory. Since the borrowing is way of life for the all laboratories in the Agricultural Institute, immediate respond and replacement of broken equipment is necessary. The memo outlines the danger of losing cooperation with Soil Science Center, potential benefits of well established borrowing system, and my recommendations for future courses of actions.
As you know, borrowing equipment from Soil Science Center is crucial for operation of our lab. Today, as any other day, I borrowed the pH meter from Soil Science Center
Laboratory, but at the moment when I tried to use it, the pH meter did not register the change. I realized that electrode is broken. I reported to Martha Jones, the principal assistant to the Soil Science Center director, Dr. Al Sampson, and apparently, she reported to her superior, Dr. Sampson. Dr. Sampson called me saying that they expect us to pay for replacement of broken electrode and participating in maintenance of equipment that we use regularly. Even if I am positive that I did not break the equipment, I am sure they think I did, and there is no way of me proving that I did not. I presented the problem to my immediate supervisor, Jim Beal, and he advised me to write you a memo explaining potential problem. The replacement cost is $93 and I think we should pay for it.
The borrowing system among these two laboratories has incredible importance, especially to our laboratory, since we are new and we have shortage of different equipments. We
