Of Mice and Men

The educational journal recently published an article discussing the positive and negative effects of watching a movie of a past book that has been read. It is believed that it "takes away from the reading experience." The article also stated that watching the movie causes kids to confuse events in the book with events in the film. I agree with that but I also believe that it is a good idea to watch the movie. Some scenes may be different but the ideas and themes are usually the same. The movie can also help combine the words and thoughts into a picture. This may help a student to better understand pieces of the novel but as stated before, it can also cause confusion for the student.
After reading the novel Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck it is a good idea to watch the movie. There are many scenes that are clarified in a great matter in the movie. The warning though, is that watching the video may differentiate from the pictures created in your mind after you have read the novel. For example when George shot Lenny. In my head, I pictured a moment of silence fallowed by a gunshot to the back of the head. In the movie, George shoots him in the middle of the sentence. An example of a scene in which was clarified for me was when they killed Candy's dog. I was unclear why they killed him but the movie cleared it up for me.
There was an article discussing the positive and negative effects of watching a movie after you have read the book. Many people believe that it can be a good experience while others disagree and say that it has negative effects on the student. I believe that it is a good idea to watch the movie even though it may cause a little confusion. I find that the movie always has more positive then negative effects.
