We are here today because you are accusing my client of teaching polythiesm. I am here to prove that he isnt teaching polythiesm but actually teaching the current orthodox Christian ways.
Let us look at the passage in question. "From this conclusion, then, I will give you a kind of corolary, just as the geomitricians infer their from their demonstrated, propositions things which they call deductions. Since men become happy by aquiring happiness, and since happiness is divinity in itself, it follows that men become happy by acquiring divinity. For as men become just by acquiring integrity, and wise by acquiring wisdom, so they must om a similar way become gods by acquiring divinity. Thus everyone who is happy is a god and, although that God is one by nature, still there may be many gods by participation." This is stated on page 63 of the Consolation.
To fully understand this as an orthodox Christian teaching we must look at happiness. What is happiness? What makes us happy? Isnt happiness getting what we want? Here is a little analogy of happiness: happiness = the good = having all desires fulfilled = contentedness = self sufficiency. So to be happy we acquire things such as wealth, fame, and fancy belongings. When we have all this we are happy as well as content or satisfied. Correct? Which then leads us to self sufficiency.
What exactly is self sufficiency you ask? Well here is an analogy of it. Self sufficiency can be thought of as "x = y" which can be true in two ways, by participation and by identity. To participate in a form is to depend on it, so participation is a form of dependence. By definition, self sufficiency cannot depend on itself, therefore when speaking of self sufficiency, "x = y" must be an identity statement. So, if "x = y" and "x = z", then y must be equal to z, thus being self sufficiency is identical to all its properties and they are identical to eachother.
So, if self sufficiency is happiness an...
