             Remember when you received that assignment a month before the due date? When did you think about starting the assignment? Some people might say 'later' or 'next week' or 'tomorrow'. Procrastination defined in a dictionary says it is the act or habit of procrastinating, or putting off to a future time. Why do we put off things that we could start immediately? What causes us to think this way?
             There are many possible causes of procrastination. If the task isn't meaningful to you, you may not feel motivated to do the task. It may even make it difficult to begin. The task may not be in any of your interests, making you feel that the project isn't even worth your time and effort. If you don't know what to do, you may not want to take the chance of being lost so you avoid it altogether. If you tell yourself that you have to do it, you are saying that something is forcing you to do a task. This causes a sense of rebellion.
             Everyone procrastinates to an extent. The problem lies on whether you give yourself ample time to complete the task. The people who have the problem are the people that procrastinate, but get a negative effect. One effect of procrastination is stress. When pressed for time, we get more anxious to get a task done. Procrastinators also risk not completing the task.
             The easiest way to solve the problem is to not give it a chance to start; do your work. For some it may be hard, but there are a few things that I've tried that have worked for me. Try to make the task interesting or make it seem important. This will make it easier for you to be motivated to finish. Split a big assignment to smaller assignments that you could finish in a shorter amount of time. Get someone to help you if you don't know what to do.
