Theogony

             Children as well as adults are always curious as to the origin of their existence. As little ones, we are often subjected to tales of long beaked birds traveling far distances to place us on the doorsteps of our parents or other inconceivable explanations as to how we came to be. Hesoid's creation story of how humans have come to their present state of existence has preceded as well as followed countless other creation stories that have tried to curb the human curiosity about their existence. In Theogony, the story of how the world began as believed by the Greeks is useful when trying to explain why humans are existing in the way they do in this day in age. The Theogony can be read and understood in parallel to the Book of Genesis in the Bible. Hesoid's conception about humanity involves a steady decline harboring on losses and failures, death and despair, and a belief that history and humankind are on a downward ethical path.
             In the beginning, men "lived like gods," (109) socializing at will with the Olympian Gods and Goddesses. This Age of Gold allowed humans to flourish enjoying free reign with a life void of aging as well as painful death. The Age of Silver brings about immature men who upon their 100th year of growth, still cannot behave properly and refuse to acknowledge their creators. The next batch of humans the all the aggressive intensity with which Zeus rules. These Age of Bronze soldiers were too violent and were short-lived. The next human race begets an exceptional group of heroes whose nobility is rewarded to a select few by experiencing the glories of the Golden Age. The age of present day human kind is that of Iron. Iron represents a worthless and most harsh metal thereby symbolizing the insignificant and insensitive race of humans produced during this stage.
