When people was asked to think of the largest structure made by man, people will answer like The Great Wall of China, the Great Pyramids or the Taj Majal. In contrast to these amazing achievements of mankind is the Durham Road Landfill outside San Francisco, which occupies seventy million cubic feet. It is a sad monument to the modern society. People must think this huge pool of garbage must be the largest thing ever produced by human hands. Those garbage produced many serious problems for our future generation. To solve the problem, human bury the garbage, however, it used a lot of valuable lands; it reduced the local economic income, and pollutes the environment. As time pass, this became an international issue, and burying garbage was considered as an unacceptable way to settle it.
             First of all, landfills take up a lot of valuable lands. I say it takes up land because that land can not be used anymore. Crops will not grow, and because of the plastic and iron garbage can not be decomposed, so the land is wasted and people have to look for another site. Both San Francisco and French landfills sites(Two largest landfills site in the world) occupied more than 50 mile land. Therefore more and more land will be waste, one day, soon or later, human will be running out of lands to dispose their garbage.
             Secondly, the landfills also reduce the income of the local economy. Nobody would want to take the garbage and put them close to their homes. According the statistics, 70 percent of citizen disagreed with it. However, the decision cannot be changed because we still need space to fill the garbage, therefore, the local citizens cannot do anything about it. And people from out of town will not invest to a smelly city. With the garbage disposal in the city, the economy dropped, trading decrease, even local people will leave the land to invest in other places.
