This chapter we meet our main character Jonas. Jonas is a boy who is 10. In this town there are no freedoms, they can't see in color, they cant even chose their own jobs! The writer of the is book Lois Lowry described the town vividly thought the book. This chapter mainly focuses on meeting Jonas and his family his father was called Father and his mother Mother yet his sister was called Lily.
this chapter our main character opens up to use by showing his feeling's he shares thought's about his birthday. His birthday is not his. His birthday is everybody in the community's. every child turns the next age up with 1 another. To avoid sibling rivalry. He talks with his father and tells his dad that he is scared because when he turns 11 they assign him to a job that will be his job for life.
This chapter we learn that Lily wants to be the birth mother, so that she can give birth to all the children in the community. Yet her mother has doubts because it is a very low respect job. And that Jonas' best friend's name is Asher.
We learn that Jonas volunteer work in the community. Jonas' has a slight flashback of when he was eight and did not have as many responsibilities and could fool around. We also learn that Asher cuts activities to do bad things. We also learn that Jonas has a crush of a girl named Fiona. Fiona is a good student , is quite, and is polite.
We learn that the community has morning ritual in witch they wake up and tell their dream form the night before. Jonas' dream was to have sex with Fiona in a bath tub ans start by letting Jonas bathe her. He knew that he was too young and that she wouldn't want it or she shouldn't want it.
