h First! has been so successful in working and strategizing with timber workers that the alienation caused by tree-spiking, not to mention the danger be, it real or imagined, was harming our efforts to save this planet... The loggers and mill workers are our neighbors, and they should be our allies, not our adversaries. Their livelihood is being destroyed along with the forests. The real conflict is not between us and the timber workers, it is between the timber corporations and our entire community"(Breton Page 31).
             Judi had now started to gain friends in the logging industry and was able to get more of an edge to fight with. She also would organize meetings between environmentalist and the logging industry. With all of this happening, there was a lot of people who didn't agree with what Judi had to say and received several death threats. On May 24, 1990 Judi Bari was driving her car with her friend Darryl Cherney when a motion-triggered pipe bomb wrapped with nails exploded directly under Judi's seat. Miraculously both Judi and Darryl survived the blast. But only a few hours after the blast when Judi was lying in a hospital bed in Oakland California, she was arrested and was charged both by the FBI and the Oakland Police. The FBI charged her for transporting illegal explosives. Even though she was not able to make it to the Redwood Summer which was an event that she had organized it still went on and made national news about the cutting of the redwood forest. After she made it out of the hospital paralyzed from the waist down, she was met by two raids of her home from the FBI and the Oakland Police in which they turned up no evidence against her and dropped all charges. Even though the FBI wasn't attacking her directly, she still was having troubles with the FBI sabotaging Earth First!.
             Judi's next move was to go directly after the company and its president. She then got a petition with 12,000 signature...
