religion tries to heal the injury without finding the cause of the injury. Society uses it to treat merely the symptoms, such as pain, suffering, mortality, ineptitude, and short fallings, rather than finding out what causes these injuries. This forces people to look forward, towards a future without these problems rather than working to change the circumstances that create these problems now. Marx sees religion as one of the great oppressors, or better yet, the working hand of the oppressors because it refuses to allow people to see the world they need to change. One of the main "hopeful" rays that Marx gives to us is the idea that eventually a world that created and allowed so much pain that society was forced to turn to such an illusion like religion would be destroyed and forced by revolution to make way for a new society in which the need for the soothing and sedating effects of religion would not be needed
