The hanging gardens of Babylon are located in Babylon on the east bank of the Euphrates River approximately 50 kilometers south of Baghdad (present day Iraq). The gardens are one of the seven wonders of the ancient world .The greatness of this achievement serves as an indication of the level of ancient Babylonian art and architecture. They were built around 689 B.C. after the Assyrians destroyed the city. King Nebuchadnezzar II wanted to build the gardens for his wife Amyitis, who was homesick and unhappy. Nebuchadnezzar II built them for her because she was from Mede and missed the forested mountains of her homeland.
