             In the poems "Anthem for doomed youth", "Dulce et decorum est" and "Strange Meeting" written by Wilfred Owen. The language he uses in these poems portray the war through his eyes and how he saw the war. Throughout the poems he uses a lot of similes to emphasis how he felt about the war.
             There are a lot of similes in "Dulce et decorum est". "Knock-kneed, coughing like hags" meaning that they were in an exhausted state. And also "Bent double, like old beggars under sacks", which compares the soldiers to dirty old beggars, slouching along. In Owens other poems like "Anthem for doomed youth" the similes show what a disgrace war is how it misleads the youth by propagation, like Hitler did to get his fellow Germans to believe that Hitler was a good person and doing everything for the good of the people, "What passing-bells for those who die as cattle?"
