             Enraged Arabs all over the world began protesting the foundation of Israel. These protests often turned violent. Days after Israel's independence they were attacked by Egypt, Syria, and Jordan in an attempt to crush the new nation (Ross). After months of fighting Israel had destroyed the invading forces, seizing control of the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Jerusalem. The armistice signed at the end of the war gave control of the newly occupied land over to Egypt and Jordan (Ross). Even though an armistice was signed the tension did not subside. Years later in June of 1967, Israel partook in a preemptive strike against Egypt, Syria and Jordan. Israel had fears that the mounting military forces at its borders were planning an attack (Kosut). The preemptive strike was considered to be a necessary security precaution for the survival of Israel. The war lasted only six days and when it was over Israel had seized control of the areas in Sinai, the West Bank, Gaza, and the Golan Heights.
