             Young teens are starving for acceptance in today's society, where physical characteristics are used to measure beauty. People are willing to push their bodies to be perfect. Unfortunately, these people who desire to be accepted by society cause them to develop eating disorders. The two most common are called anorexia and bulimia. These disorders cause a person to look in the mirror and see themselves larger than they really are. These terrible diseases are almost purely mental and they need immediate treatment. Anorexia and bulimia are both extremely serious eating disorders with differences and similarities in their causes, symptoms, and treatments. Although anorexia and bulimia share many of the same symptoms, they also have many differences.
             Anorexia is an eating disorder in which a person has an intense fear of gaining weight or becoming obese. This person will eat very little, like an apple, or nothing at all for the whole day. This disease occurs in more women than men because women feel the pressure from our society closing in on them to have the perfect body. People with bulimia are also terrified of gaining weight, but they can usually keep within a normal weight. This is because they eat very large amounts of fattening food (called 'bingeing'), but then get rid of that food by vomiting or by taking laxatives. Bulimia usually develops during adolescent when a person is extremely sensitive. This disease is most common among teenage girls.
             Anorectic's are extremely determined to control and limit the amounts of food that they eat, and they will never eat any food that is not safe to eat because it could cause them to gain weight. Bulimics feel that they are out of control. After each time they eat, an overwhelming rush of guilt comes over them after they have consumed too much, and because of this they purge the food by vomiting, and abusing laxatives as an attem
