The article that I chose to read from the book was on the legalization of prostitution, and the benefits that can come from doing so. The article focuses on several points, mainly, the spread of epidemics, organized crime, and the morality of the subject, all of which are valid issues that need addressing.
             I think that the author's stance on the subject is a good one, and I agree with the author one hundred percent. Prostitution is the world's oldest profession, and it will continue to exist in our society whether or not the majority of people today support it, so why then should we not profit from it? Those who are against prostitution complain that it spreads sexually transmitted diseases, that it adds to crime rate in the surrounding area, and of course, that prostitution is morally wrong. However, I feel that legalizing prostitution would minimize these problems altogether, creating a situation that everyone can be happy about on one level or another.
             When dealing with the issue of the spreading of epidemics, the author explains how legalizing prostitution would greatly improve the situation. Houses would be set up where prostitution would take place, which would eliminate girls working on the streets, and sex crimes would be drastically reduced. Girls would be provided with check ups for sexually transmitted diseases, eliminating the threat of spreading such diseases.
             In regards to organized crime, the author brings to light some very good points. If treated like legitimate businesses, then the states can tax these businesses and benefit from them, as well as regulate the businesses. That in turn makes it much easier for the police to control and supervise prostitution, in turn, reducing the crime rate. This is a huge problem for police in areas that have not legalized prostitution, so why then should we not fix the problem?
