             The benefits of a CT scan for detection of musculoskeletal abnormalities are that it is fast and painless, generally very detailed and relatively easy to perform. CT also has an advantage over MRI because of its ability to withstand distortion from metallic objects. For example, when a patient with internal fixation of the pelvis due to injuries suffered in an automobile accident, returns with hip pain a CT can be performed in order to confirm or deny the possibility that one or more of the screws had been inadvertently placed in the joint.
