             It is also necessary to know a little bit about Robert Gould, in order to complete the whole history of why this poem was written. Gould was twenty years old when he wrote this satyr against women, and he continued to this throughout his writing career. After the Female Advocate was published this inspired over a dozen other works to be published in response, almost all written by Gould and his contemporary Richard Ames.
             "Gould and Ames, who sometimes posed as women writers, virtually created this controversy, addressing and responding themselves and each other." (Medoff, 157)
             In his satyr Gould claims that the creation of Eve was a mistake, or the "intention" of the Devil. Gould also gives his personal image of Hell, a place populated with women. He then goes on to say that to release the stress wives cause men; they must do so with whores "as the lesser of two evils". Like Fyge, Gould publishes a second edition to his satyr, making it a little less obscene.
             In the Female Advocate, Fyge uses her writing abilities at the most to counteract against every single line that Gould wrote in his satyr. She writes with extreme security and is not afraid to write exactly how she thinks. This honesty makes the reading extremely easy, and her point is understood no questions asked.
