University Days was a memory that I think everyone goes through. Everyone has the one class or one subject that no matter how hard they try they're never going to pass. Thurber uses humor to express his extreme inability to see through a microscope. His professor got very frustrated with him, and embarrassed him in front of his classmates.
             He talks about how he and many other students did everything possible to help the stereotypical dumb star football player stay academically eligible for the big game against Illinois. Every major university has that one extremely talented athlete that is under qualified when it comes to smarts and education. However, no matter what, the professor and the students are going to do everything in their power to pass him, and keep him to keep their school respectable in that sport.
             I think that this was a fun story to read, because it reminded me of a typical high school or college scenario. I think that it is very clear that the characters and the events in this story probably never happened, but it is appealing to students in that they can without a doubt think back to a time when they have felt the same way. Like in high school having to take courses that one may not be interested in at all, but needed it in order to graduate. Everyone at one time or another feels like the 'soar thumb' that sticks out because they are in an environment that in completely unfamiliar.
