In 1726 an Anglo-Irishman names Jonathan Swift wrote what we say today is one of the most famous books; " Gulliver's Travel " ( also known as: " Travels into Several remote nations of the World, In Four Parts, By Lemuel Gulliver, First a Surgeon, and then a Captain of Several Ships"). Swifts aim in his writing was to improve human conduct, to make people more humane. Swift accomplished this goal by writing satirical literature though to many it was conceived as comic relief, a parody of travel literature, and a children's classic. Now today people read and Analyze Gulliver's Travels as Swift sought for it to be, a satiric masterpiece. Swift express concerns about political, social, and philosophical issues by taking voyages to six (6) different islands each having a different message behind its humor. The three (3) islands that I felt had a strong satirical message were Lilliput, Brobdingnag, and Houyhnhnm.
In Gulliver's first adventure, he begins on a ship that runs aground on a submerged rock. He swims to land, and when he awakens, he finds himself tied down to the ground, and surrounded by tiny people, the Lilliputians. The island he lands on is called Lilliput. In this voyage Gulliver is six (6) times bigger then the Lilliputians, the speak a totally different language, and have completely different customs. On the island there are two different groups of Lilliputians, the only way you can tell these Lilliputians apart are by the soul of there shoe. In Lilliput, years ago, people once broke eggs on the big end. However, the present king's grandfather once cut himself breaking the egg in this manner, so the King at the time, the father of the present king's grandfather, issued an edict that all were to break the eggs on the small end.
