             Allen Ginsberg's early childhood was dominated by his mother's insanity. His mother would have spells that would send her off the deep end and into a severe eclipse of paranoia. Ginsberg struggled to help his mother for he was the only one she trusted during her paranoia spells, and he struggled with his own feelings about sexuality. His attractions towards men were hard to deal with during the 1940's since this wasn't as mainstream as today. Ginsberg found a love for the poetry of Walt Whitman during high school and entered Columbia University were he fell into the crowd of Burroughs, Cassady and Kerouac.
