The extracts are both poems. The first one is called Elsa Wertman, it tells about a peasant girl who comes from Germany. She is a worker in a farm, Thomas Green's place. When the woman of the house is a way from the farm the man of the house get closer to the girl. The girl gets pregnant and she gets a boy. The woman of the house understood the situation and promised to adopt the baby because they can't have children. The boy gets a man and he becomes a great man, he gets into politics and the real mother is jelous to the family who adopted the child.
In the second extract, the boy is now a big man and he adores his parents. He thanks his parents of his success, that he became a judge, member of Congress, leader in the state. He thanks his mother about the characteristics he inherited from her, liveliness, fancy and language. And he thanks his father for getting will, judgement and logic. And he thinks that he is service for people because of those characteristics.
The theme in the first poem could be bitterness, because she couldn't keep the baby and in the care of the foster parents the baby becomes a great man who is with in politics. The women would like destroy Hamilton's good life by telling who he really is and maybe destroy his career. And essentially she is jealous to the Thomas Greene and to his wife.
The theme of the poem of the Hamilton could be Hamilton Greene himself and also thankfulness because he thanks his parents of becoming great.
