             Have you ever turned on your radio and hit the scan button to get a preview of what songs are on? What is going through your head when you skip right over a station and go on to the next? The reason we keep looking for a station is because we don't like the beat, or the lyrics that might have a negative impact on us. Although there may be people that listen to varieties of music, everyone interprets their own meanings and reacts to them in different ways. Music can influence everything from a persons attitude to the way a person dresses. From Rap to Classical, music influences all age groups. The age group that seems to be directly influenced by music is young kids and children.
             When kids are young they are susceptible to negative or positive influences. They tend to wear what is "in style" or what they see on music videos. Relating to the music video with Brittany Spears when she wears very revealing clothes, it would be bad if all the girls dressed like her. Kids can be persuaded very easily and feel it is necessary to do what others are doing. Therefore, we should filter the music that our children listen to and make sure that they have a positive role model. This would lower the profane street language that kids use and keep them dressing more sophisticated.
             Lyrics add new life and meaning to any song. The words that are spoken can be understood in many different ways because words are arbitrary, which means words have only the meanings that people give them. Children have a very limited vocabulary, but pick up on words and phrases that people use. For example, in a rap song they may be talking about their love for someone, but because they use profanity we all do not see the beauty of the song and children just think they can use what they hear as their own vocabulary.
             Everyone is an individual that can make their own assumptions, but children still need guidance to stay
