Later in Denmark Crane her turn down the proposal of Axel Olsen a famous European painter. She ends up seducing and marrying a Southern preacher. The Crane also felt uncomfortable in Naxos no matter how hard she tried she did not fit in. Even after meeting her fiancée James Vayle she still did not fit in. And his family did not accept her because her own family did not accept her. Crane eventually becomes so fed up with her situation in Naxos that she tries to leave and go back to Chicago but she does not have the money to.
