Unfair Attack

I was extremely disappointed with your article Bosnia's Children of Rape [May]. As a magazine with a good reputation I was expecting an article that was accurate in the occurrences in Bosnia. Is it really possible that in a place such as Bosnia that only Muslim woman get raped? And that they were all raped by Serbian soldiers? This article makes it out as if there were no Serbian women raped by Croats or Muslims and that only the Serbs were barbaric in their actions. How can that be true in a time of war when there are two or more sides? Bosnia was home to Muslims (left over from the Ottoman Empire), Croats and Serbs. All three races suffered heavily and innocent people from all three sides died unnecessarily. Jasmina claims that Catholic girls lead her to a Serbian rapist. All Serbs are Orthodox; Croats are Catholic, which is one of the main reasons underpinning the collapse of Yugoslavia and the demise of the Yugoslavian nationality. Rape is one of the worst things to happen to a woman, and I don't doubt that Jasmina was raped. I'm not denying that the Serbs did terrible things in Bosnia, but there a two other sides who have been forgotten, and the repercussions of their actions against the Serbian people are still reverberating throughout the Balkans. Serbian women were raped and tortured just as badly as any other women in the Balkans at that time, but their rapists have had a blind eye turned on them.
