deadly to an unaccustomed primate like humans.
There are theories that HIV originated from a strain of SIV. Many scientists think that the virus was not thriving in its primate hosts, so it made the "jump" to human HIV.
HIV can be transmitted through four different ways, which include blood, semen, vaginal secretions, and breast milk. During vaginal or anal sexual intercourse, HIV may infect the mucous membranes directly or enter through cuts and sores caused by sexual activity or another sexually transmitted disease. Its also possible that a HIV infected mother can pass the virus to her child during child birth or through breast milk.
Before you can completely understand the history of the virus you must first come to know its unique factors and what makes HIV what it is. There are two unique factors that I would like to acknowledge about the HIV virus.
Firstly HIV falls into category with the Retrovirus. "Retro" meaning backward almost completely explains it. Howard Temin and David Baltimore discovered Reverse Transcriptase. This is a key enzyme that allowed Retroviruses to accomplish the unthinkable. Until Temin, scientists thought all viruses carry inside them DNA. The DNA is like a code to tell the virus what to do throughout its lifecycle and how to reproduce. In contrast to that belief, Temin proved all retroviruses carry inside them RNA and they later transcribe, or copy, that into DNA inside the host's cell. Before it was thought that all virus carry DNA, which was converted later into RNA. So HIV has a trick up its sleeve like vary few viruses' pull, that sets it apart in claiming so many people's lives.
Second, HIV has a fast and deadly way of accomplishing fast mutation rates. HIV can reproduce both sexually and asexually. It can clone or copy itself making an exact replica (asexually.) It can also reproduce sexually by two viruses infecting the same cell at the same time. Th...
