             Josephine Alibrandi is a third generation Italian Australian caught in a claustrophobic family tradition who acknowledges the family spirit, insists that she can free herself, even though she sees herself trapped deal with. It shows how people of different racial backgrounds are not accepted in the society without an achievement, which the average members of the society cannot achieve themselves. Looking for Alibrandi is the story of Josie's experiences at school, and her relationships with friends and family during her last year at St. Matha's girl's school. Apart from too search for her identity theme, Looking for Alibrandi deals with other themes that teenagers can also relate to. Teenage suicide, teenage sexuality. Through the actions of the characters, these cultural boundaries are crossed. Josie is subject to discrimination due to their culture, the strict parental expectations, cultural traditions and events, morals and beliefs.
             But she goes against more that that, with 3 boyfriends and a load of schoolwork she is confused and her family doesn't help. Josie Alibrandi discovers her true identity and breaks free of her mothers and grandmother's cultural boundaries, guidelines and strict expectations, A key event in the novel that changes Josephine Alibrandi's perspective and helps shape our understanding of the concept is the meeting of her father, Michael Andretti. Initially, before Josephine has never even met Michael, she resents him. She feels that he abandoned her mother while she was pregnant. When she first meets him however she gets the impression that he is intelligent and a decent human being, though she doesn't make it known to him. After Josephine gets into a fight at school with Carly Bishop, Carly's father threatens legal action.
