             Every year, thousands of people travel to the Thredbo Ski Resort near Canberra. At 11:40 pm, on a cold and frosty night when 100 tons of mud and debris started to move. On this particular slope, there happened to be a 70∘ slope–a deadly combination when mixed with wet conditions and mud. As the slide started to make its way down the mountain at over 75 km/h, a few of the people still awake started to notice it, but there was no avoiding it. As the slide smashed against the buildings and cars, they collapsed and were sent sprawling, respectively.
             There was a sound like a fighter jet. This was not a major landslide, as it only toppled two resort buildings, but it received international attention. The sleepers were suddenly awoken by the cries of the 18 people trapped in the destruction. As they walked outside, they noticed trees and cars on top of lodges and houses. There was another threat for slide to happen, as natural gas lines had broken. Before three hours, there were 100 professional services and a hoard of volunteers eager to help clear the wreckage.
             If they wanted to find anyone alive, they were going to need heavier equipment. A KATO digger was called in. This, combined with the aid of workers with chainsaws and hand saws, the 70∘ slope and the constantly sub zero temperatures made rescuers' task even the more difficult. By the end of the first day, no one alive was found. High powered lights were set up to aid the rescue workers in the night. In the 24 hours after the slide, only one body had been found, another in the early morning and another two in the late afternoon sun. Three bodies were found as night fell on Saturday.
